Healthcare Hygiene magazine partnered with the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) to develop a three-day virtual symposium that explored imperatives relating to the needs of the sterile processing department, collaboration with infection prevention and control stakeholders, and communication with the hospital C-suite leadership.

This symposium, held Oct. 11-13, 2022 during Sterile Processing Week, offers 6 FREE contact hours of continuing education* for sterile processing professionals, nurses and other healthcare practitioners. This virtual symposium sessions will be available on demand here through Spring 2023.

The sessions:

Sessions will address some of the most timely issues facing the SPD, including:

• Leveraging the power of education and working with hospital leadership to improve sterile processing departments (SPDs)

• Addressing SPD knowledge and skills gaps through education and training

• Joint Commission and AAMI standards; how TJC surveyors interpret the standards, including those under the new ST91: 2021, during site visits and ensure the standards and best practices are being consistently followed

• Identifying SPD needs through infection prevention and control risk assessment processes

• Occupational exposure risks in the SPD, including ground-breaking research on splashes and droplet dispersal in sterile processing areas, plus new recommendations for visual inspection of flexible endoscopes

• Exploring the many ways sterile professionals impact lives every day
